What it actually does
Four sides, one check
Front, rear, left and right. That is the daily van check: four labelled slots, a counter that reads 4/4 when you are done. It is a vehicle check you can find later, not another album in camera roll.
Tied to the shift, not the camera roll
Each check sits on the evidence screen with the time you took it. Start a new check when you need a fresh set. Yesterday’s four sides stay in history instead of sitting under two hundred doorstep photos.
Export a PDF for the day or the week
Need to send the check, not scroll a phone at the hire desk? Export a van-check PDF for the selected day or week. The file lists each photo, the watermark, and flags any picture that is no longer on the device.
Time on the photo — GPS if the phone can get it
By default each shot is watermarked with the capture date and time. If location is available, the watermark also has GPS. You can turn watermarks off in settings. The photo still saves if GPS fails.
How it works
- Start the shift. If you have not taken today’s four sides, Rydealog asks you to do the van check first. You can skip and start anyway.
- Photograph the van. Front, rear, left, right. Close-ups of a mark go in the matching side’s slot — retaking a side replaces that slot for the current check.
- Keep it, or export it. Open the evidence tab later, browse the day or week, and download a van-check PDF if you need a file.

Honest limitations
- This is four labelled photos, not a full defect book. Tyres, lights, load and papers are still on you. Print the courier van check checklist if you want that walk-around on paper.
- A photo record helps you find what you captured. It does not guarantee a depot, hire desk, insurer or court will accept it.
- Van checks are Pro, and they need a signed-in (non-guest) account. Signed-in evidence is stored in your private account so you can restore it after a reinstall — it is not a community share, but it is not “photos never leave the phone” either.
- iPhone only for now. Independent — not linked to any courier company.
FAQs
Is a van check app the same as a DVSA walk-around?
No. Rydealog files front, rear, left and right photos against the shift so you can show existing damage. It does not replace a proper walk-around of tyres, lights, load and papers. Use the printable courier van check checklist for that.
Are van checks free in Rydealog?
Shift planning and shift history stay free. Van checks are a Pro feature, at £6.99 a month or £59.99 a year. There is no free trial yet.
Can I export a van-check PDF?
Yes. On the evidence screen you can export a van-check PDF for the selected day or week. Photos that are missing from the phone still show as missing files in the PDF.
Will the depot accept these photos if they try to charge me?
Records help you find what you captured, with time and optional GPS on the photo. They do not guarantee a depot, hire desk, insurer or court will accept them.
